Kateřina Karhánková graduated from the Animation Department at FAMU, Prague. She focuses on films for children, often visiting schools to interview kids. Her graduation film "The New Species" competed at Annecy 2014, was presented at the MoMA in NYC and was selected at several international festivals where it won awards from both juries and audiences. Her following film, "Tony and Mr. Illness", won several awards including the 2015 Gold Panda.

This movie is about curiosity and trying to know more. About overcoming fear of the unknown. About trying to pass on the experience to others with the indulgence to their fears. About the possibility to look at every problem from different perspectives. Every one of us was once ,,Furry” and stood in front of a dark forest being afraid to enter. The film is without words, I wanted the narration to be free of linguistic barriers and so being comprehensible to children and people from different parts of the world.

Synopsis:

Mukumů is an animated film that illustrates the peculiar Scandinavian nature and people who live there and fight with both the nature and their own existence. The film shows everyday life and the unpredictable situations made by nature. The word "mukumů" is used for calling cows to come from the fields. It represents casual activities which give life sense. Humans, animals and nature are all together trying to survive.

Mukumů est un film d'animation qui illustre la nature scandinave particulière et les gens qui y vivent et se battent avec la nature et leur propre existence. Le film montre la vie quotidienne et les situations imprévisibles de la nature. Le mot "mukumů" est utilisé pour appeler les vaches à venir des champs. She is former student of animation at Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. She is interested in both digital and classical techniques. Now I am focused on 2D drawn animation. She does animated movies as well as commercional things (trailers, videoclips, spots). Among my works belong illustrations and graphics as well (magazines, books, posters). Her film Mukumů was screened on several festivals in Czech and Slovak Republic (Anifilm, Finále Plzeň, Fest Anča, PAF Olomouc). Currently I am working on a new project including animation and classical graphic techniques.
